My favorite chapter was about John Muir and a dog named Stickeen. They traveled up to Alaska and hiked a glacier mountains with two indians and a man named Young. They camped on a mountain for about two weeks.
John and the dog, Stickeen, went hiking and climbing onto a glacier. Then the wind started to get really harsh and while they were walking the dog started whimpering because the sharp ice was cutting into his feet. John ripped a piece of his jacket to make cloth boots for Stickeen to protect his feet.
The weather started to get really bad and they saw a cavern that they camped in until the weather calmed down.
When they were trying to get back John and Stickeen came across a thin but short ice bridge over a giant crack in the glacier. John carefully walked over by digging his heels into the ice. He turned around to see if Stickeen was coming but the dog was standing on the other side whimpering in the bad weather. John started encouraging him to cross over and told Stickeen that he would have to leave him up there if he didn't come.
Then Stickeen got brave and walked across over to John. When he got over to John he started barking out of joy.
